Cats have been part of my life since I was 12. But it was a rescued Persian named Burzhuy—yes, named after the French word for “bourgeoisie”—who changed everything.

He wasn’t just beautiful. He was there.
He stayed close through health challenges, and he curled up beside me through the fog of depression. He didn’t need to understand the details—he simply showed up. Calm. Loyal. Constant.

When he passed peacefully at an old age, I knew I had to honor the impact he had on me. I began looking for another Persian and quickly realized something had changed: the faces were more extreme, the health problems more common, and the quiet confidence I loved… harder to find.

That’s when I committed to preserving what made Burzhuy so special.
